With climate change and urbanization, indoor playgrounds have become an important place for children's daily activities. The design of indoor playgrounds should not only make children play happily, but also meet safety standards to ensure the safety of children. Here are some steps to build a safe indoor playground:

1. Site Selection

When choosing a venue, you need to consider the distance from the target audience, parking convenience, fire protection facilities, and whether it meets safety regulations.

2. Space Planning & Layout

Age-appropriate areas: Consider the needs of different age groups of customers at the playground and set up separate areas for different age groups (toddlers, older kids) to prevent accidents.

Equipment Spacing: Arrange amusement equipment reasonably to ensure sufficient space to avoid crowding and collision and allow easy movement.

No sharp edges: Wrap sharp edges of playground equipment with foam rubber protectors to protect children from injury.

Accessibility: Include ramps, sensory-friendly areas, and adaptive equipment for children with disabilities.

3. Equipment Safety

Equipment compliance: Use equipment certified by ASTM, CPSC or local safety standards to ensure that the materials of the amusement equipment are safe and non-toxic.

4. Environmental Hazards

Electrical safety: Cover outlets with child-resistant plugs, hide cords behind appliances, and keep cords away from water/sinks.

Windows/Doors: Install window guards (max 4-inch gap) and door stoppers to prevent slamming.

Temperature & Ventilation: Keep the space cool (68–72°F) and well-ventilated to avoid overheating.

5. Daily Maintenance

Regular Inspections: Check for loose Indoor Playground Equipment screws, torn padding, or sharp edges weekly.

Cleaning: Clean and disinfect the surface of toys and equipment every day to ensure that toys and equipment are clean and tidy.

6. Emergency Preparedness

Exits & Signage: Mark clear emergency exits and evacuation routes; keep fire extinguishers accessible.

First Aid: Stock well-equipped kits and post emergency contacts prominently.

Drills: Conduct regular fire and lockdown drills with staff.

By integrating Site Selection, Space Planning & Layout, Equipment Safety, and Daily Maintenance elements, you can create a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable indoor playground.
